Introduction & Scope
This Privacy Policy explains how Matrimilan Technologies Pvt. Ltd. (“Matrimilan”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal information when you apply to, use, or interact with our service. It applies to our website, our iOS and Android apps, and any related communications.
We are committed to handling your information with the same care we ask members to give one another — purposefully, transparently, and only as much as is necessary.
Information We Collect
We collect information you give us directly, information collected automatically as you use the Service, and — where required for verification — information from third parties such as identity-document issuers and reverse-image-search providers.
Categories of information
- Account information: name, mobile number, email address, password (hashed).
- Profile information: date of birth, gender, marital status, location, education, occupation, languages, family background, values, and partner preferences.
- Photographs and other media you upload to your profile.
- Identity-verification data: government-issued ID details and verification results (we do not retain raw ID images longer than required).
- Behavioural data: which profiles you view, the matches you accept or decline, in-app activity, device and browser information.
- Communications with us (support requests, feedback, surveys).
- Payment metadata (we do not store card numbers; payments are processed by PCI-compliant gateways).
- Cookies and similar technologies (see Section 9).
How We Use Information
We use your information for the following purposes, and no others:
- Matching: surfacing relevant profiles to you and you to other matched members, under the privacy controls you set.
- Verification: confirming you are who you say you are, and that your profile reflects reality.
- Communication: sending you matches, member updates, account notices, and (with your consent) occasional product news.
- Service improvement: understanding how the product is used so we can make it better — always in aggregate, never to single you out.
- Safety and integrity: preventing fraud, abuse, harassment, and misuse.
- Legal compliance: meeting our obligations under Indian law and lawful requests from government authorities.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your information for advertising.
AI & Human Verification
Every profile and every photograph submitted to Matrimilan is reviewed by a combination of machine-learning models and human reviewers before it goes live. Our model performs first-pass screening (image quality, likeness, suspicious patterns); our human reviewers make the final decision.
Reviewers are bound by strict confidentiality and access only the information they need to complete a verification. Their reviews are logged and audited. Decisions are explainable: if your application is declined, we will tell you, in summary, why.
Where automated decisions materially affect you (for example, a fraud-prevention block), you have the right to request human review — see Section 7.
Sharing & Disclosures
We share your information only in the limited circumstances described below.
- With matched members, only as you choose to make it visible. The default is private.
- With family members you explicitly invite into a match conversation, at the granularity (per section, per photo, per match) you specify.
- With service providers under written contract, who help us operate the platform (cloud hosting, identity verification, payment processing, customer support tooling). These providers are bound by confidentiality and are not permitted to use your information for any other purpose.
- When required by law: in response to a lawful order from an Indian court, regulator, or law-enforcement authority, with the minimum disclosure required.
- In a corporate transaction (merger, acquisition, restructuring): your information may transfer to the successor entity, subject to the same protections.
We do not share your information with advertisers, data brokers, or social-media platforms for retargeting.
Data Security
We protect your information with reasonable and appropriate technical and organisational measures, including encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest (AES-256), strict access controls on a need-to-know basis, audit logging, and regular staff training on data protection.
No system is perfectly secure. If we ever experience a breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you and the relevant authority promptly, in line with applicable law.
Your Rights
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and other applicable laws, you have the following rights:
- Access: ask us what personal information we hold about you.
- Correction: request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Erasure: request deletion of your personal information (subject to limited legal exceptions).
- Portability: receive a machine-readable copy of the information you provided to us.
- Withdrawal of consent: withdraw any consent you previously gave, at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.
- Human review: request human review of any significant automated decision that affects you.
- Grievance: raise a concern with our Grievance Officer, listed on our Contact page.

Family Privacy Controls
Matrimilan is built on the conviction that you, the member, decide when and how your family enters the conversation — never automatically, never by default.
When you invite a family member to a match conversation, you control what they see and what they don’t: which sections of your profile, which photos, which messages. You can revoke a family member’s access at any time, and revocation is immediate.
Family members invited into the platform are themselves subject to this Privacy Policy and the Terms of Service. They may not save, screenshot, or share what they see in ways that violate either.
Cookies & Tracking
We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies — strictly necessary cookies for authentication and session management, and basic, privacy-respecting analytics that help us understand product usage in aggregate.
We do not use third-party advertising cookies. We do not allow social-media trackers on member-facing surfaces. You can manage cookies in your browser settings; disabling strictly necessary cookies will prevent the Service from functioning.
Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active. If you close your account, we remove your profile from member-facing surfaces immediately and delete it from active systems within thirty days.
Limited information may be retained longer where required by law (for example, for fraud prevention, tax, or regulatory compliance), or in encrypted backups for up to one year. After that window, all backups are over-written.
International Transfers
Matrimilan’s primary infrastructure is located in India. Some service providers we use (for example, certain cloud or analytics providers) may process information outside India. Where this happens, we ensure that transfers occur under contracts that provide protections substantially equivalent to those required by Indian law.
Children’s Privacy
Matrimilan is for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that an account belongs to a minor, we delete it immediately.
If you believe a member is under 18, please contact privacy@matrimilan.com so we can investigate.
Changes to This Policy
We may revise this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the current version. For material changes, we will email members at least fourteen days before the new policy takes effect.
